Black Cabochon Layered Filigree Pot Metal Vintage Brooch

This beautiful, old, and interesting brooch was a discovery I made in a vintage flea market in a town near where I live in Montana. The silver tone metal is pot metal, which is made by melting down a mixture of metals; recognizable by its dull finish, which in this case gives it a very wonderful lacy silver ribbon look. It also gives it a substantial feel.
This brooch is likely from the 1940s when pot metal was used frequently in jewelry making, since World War II efforts were using most other metals for weapons and war efforts.
It measures 1 5/8” in diameter and .75” in depth, created on a delicate filigree base with several layers of swirled designs that end in black balls; there are 8, and a large black cabochon in the center.
This unique brooch is in very good condition for its 70+ years of existence. Of course, as a vintage piece it still has some signs of age related wear. The woman I bought it from said it had been her mother’s and was only worn for special occasions. The pictures offer greater perspective on its vintage condition, beauty and styling.
